Life Scientist/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist (Air Quality Specialist) - R5

This position is in Region 5, Ari and Radiation Division. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About Region 5.

Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected.

At the entry level of this position, you will:
  • Conduct analyses of air quality issues in support of a limited range of regulatory activities. Assist senior scientists and engineers in implementing the federal Clean Air Act’s (CAA’s) provisions regarding the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and/or strategies for identifying toxic air pollutants, permits, State Implementation Plans (SIPs), monitoring and voluntary/non-regulatory programs.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to state, local, or tribal agency personnel on routine air quality issues.
  • Make minor adaptations to procedures and accepted practices to identify areas that need development. Study a limited range of air quality scientific, engineering and/or environmental technical issues.
  • Prepare scientific/technical written information following prescribed methods and guidelines for written documents, briefings, workshop/conference/seminar and presentations, and/or public hearings.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.
