Communications Internship, Spring 2021

The Communications Intern will work with the Communications Department to perform functions critical to communicating the Studio Museum’s mission and offerings to Museum stakeholders, the press, and our diverse audiences. The Communications Intern will learn about institutional voice, communications strategy, media relations best practices, and will assist with pulling Studio Museum press mentions and interacting with press requests weekly. The intern will work on drafting copy for the institution’s administrative, programming, and exhibition needs as well as contributing to the Museum's magazine, Studio.

Applicants must possess excellent writing and communication skills, a superb attention to detail, be highly organized, and able to work independently. Must demonstrate familiarity with social media, and online email marketing tools (Mailchimp).

The Communications Internship is designed for mature undergraduate, graduate students or recent graduates interested in careers in Arts Communication, Media Studies, Social Marketing, Arts Administration, or related fields.

Applicant must provide the following:

  • A statement of intent (500 words or fewer) explaining reasons for applying to the program, what you hope to gain from the experience, and how it might enhance your education and career plans.
  • One letter of recommendation from a person who knows you in a professional or academic capacity is required. Recommenders may also email their letter separately to internships@studiomuseum.org by the application deadline.

Internship requires a minimum 12 hours/week, during the work week. The total 14-week internship has a total stipend of $2520 and is entirely remote. Interns are expected to supply their own computer for the duration of the program.
